Compasión, LLC is a DBHDS-licensed mental health agency that provides numerous services to the Hampton Roads community and surrounding areas. It was established in 2008 by Mr. George McGaskey who had the vision and desire to assist at-risk youth with emotional and behavioral difficulties that create a barrier to academic and social success. Our Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) program provides medically necessary, individualized, and structured therapeutic interventions to children/adolescents with mental, emotional, or behavioral illnesses as evidenced by diagnoses that support and are consistent with the TDT service and whose symptoms are causing significant functional impairments in major life activities such that they need the structured treatment interventions offered by TDT.
Since its inception, Compasión, LLC has recognized that in order to best serve the needs of the community, other services need to be provided to fully support the children as well as their families, in addition to those struggling individually with mental illness. Therefore, the company also offers Mental Health Skill-building services for such adults in the community to encourage and support work towards independence, and Intensive In-Home counseling services to assist families with improving the child’s overall behavior and emotional well-being. This service is offered to children who are at risk out of home placement or transitioning back into the home setting.
Compasión, LLC’s general practices are directed by Mrs. Lateacia Sessoms, who is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor and Board Certified Human Services Practitioner and has been leading the company since 2010. The clinical practices are overseen by Amanda Britton, LPC and Erin Freeman LPC, who provides psychotherapy and staff supervision. Additionally, we have Master’s and Bachelor’s Level clinicians and QMHP’s working diligently to provide the most effective interventions. Aside from assessment and treatment, our counselors also provide case management, resource linkage, and general planning to help assist individuals and/or their families in meeting all of their needs.
